Uncle Rico
“Moreover when God gives someone wealth and possessions and the ability to enjoy them, to accept their lot and be happy in their toil this is a gift of God.” Eccles 5:19
Good mental health is to define your God given path and talent. Pursue it with fervor, learn the craft, and embrace it. If you teach, teach with fervor. If you create, create with zeal. If you build, build with strength.
“They seldom reflect on the days of their life, because God keeps them occupied with gladness of heart.” Eccles 5:20
This verse reminds me of Napoleon Dynamite’s Uncle Rico describing his days back in 1984 throwing a football for his high school. Uncle Rico got stuck in a timeframe of what his life used to be, his “glory days.” Of course this makes for great comedy throughout this timeless movie. However, getting stuck on what was, or looking back does not bring about joy or gladness of heart. Instead, it springs up depression and sadness for what is not or what could have been.
The marker of great mental health is to be present with yourself and your purpose for being on earth. God smiles at us when we embrace the talent He gives us. Peace and contentment within our selves and what we do while we are here brings gladness of heart, joy and peace.
