Great Expectations and Judging
Great Expectations and judging Christ says to us, “ For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you. Often we judge based upon expectations we have for ourselves and others. The list of qualifiers are societal norms that aren’t really sustainable. You must have this perfect body, be a baker, be a homemaker, be an outstanding employee, have house chores done prior to Monday. Don’t forget to workout in between all that and look like a cover model for a magazine. LOL Yeah right. Ain’t happening! Our expectations of ourselves surpass the human capability. God designed us for work, play, rest and food. Rest is overlooked often. Some of us need to learn how to rest. The expectation that you can do it all and so everyone else SHOULD too is a negative belief brought on by external influences. Shut these beliefs down! Jesus is saying if you going to use that standard for others, I am going to use that standard for you! Slap in the face isn’t it? Jesus is saying stop putting burdens and monkeys on others’ backs that you cannot even keep for yourself. You don’t know the obstacles another person faces to get through a day. Their best isn’t going to be someone else’s best. Guess what? That’s ok. Jesus wants us to all do our part whatever your part is. It might look different for this person vs another person. Let go of those unrealistic expectations and burdens you are putting on yourself. Do your reasonable service for that day and lay down feeling good about your part. Linda Goad LPC, ALPS, NCC
